Exploit Wrote:I was able to find emails and posts from nearly every player in this game bemoaning how large alliances ruin the game and how they should be prevented. Yet here we are in a situation whereby every one of you has crawled, like blind mewling pups, into the largest possible alliance against a single person nonetheless.
I'm actually a little flattered that you think I am such a good player that it takes 10 to 1 odds to defeat me however the unfortunate truth is that you are all simply cowards and hypocrits. Cowards because you are afraid to stand up against a large alliance, preferring to conform instead of confront. Hypocrits because you say you dislike large alliances and yet you join one at the earliest opportunity.
Pathetic little pups trying to bring down the lone wolf by the sheer volume of their wimpering mass. Try not to wet yourselves as you cower on my borders.
Exploit has dealt honorably with me this game, and in as much that I separate the player (honorable) from the civ (very dishonorable) I don't want to make any sort of public rebuttal. However let me offer one thought I was otherwise going to post in the RBP3 planning thread:
Reasons people publicly oppose large alliances, and yet join them anyways: real life analogies -
Reason 1 - Race to the Bottom.
>Real-life example - Campaign Finance Reform
>Real-life reasoning* - Individually politicians agree
everyone would be better off if certain types of donations were banned. However as long as they are not banned anyone refusing to take such donations is too poorly funded to seek reelection, therefore the "good guys" must take the same shady donations to stay competitive with the "bad guys."
>Civ reasoning - We would all like big trading blocs to not occur. However since they do occur not participating is asking to be left out while 10 other civs trade away.
Reason 2 - 'But not to me...'
>Real-life example - Immanent domain laws
>Real-life reasoning* -
Everyone agrees that stubborn individuals shouldn't be able to hold the public hostage with unreasonable demands for much-more-than-fair compensation for their house/land/business that needs to be leveled to build a public-serving school/hospital/government building. The one exception is the person's own house/land/business.
>Civ reasoning - Trading blocs are terrible, they're too rigid and make the tech pace too fast. Of course
I want and need strong allies and key techs and will make any deals that provide them.
