That story thread scares me quite a bit! I wonder who is behind playing the devil..
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"

Logged in just to end turn. LP had logged in and settled his city right before I got in. He sent this message:

I did grab a new Demos screenshot. Team Orgy and Team E & C both settled their capitals, with an average of six land tiles each.

What's the point of the story thread? I'm assuming it's basically a banter thread, in which case it maybe should be stickied?

I don't really like that it was created without discussion. Banter threads don't have the best PB track record here. But at least it gets all the off-topic posts out of the tech thread. smile

Banter threads are bad because they turn into diplomacy threads. You already have full diplomacy so it doesn't really matter, only issue is information from people you haven't contacted yet.

For now it seems the story thread is some kind of wannabe asylum. Do you feel we should participate, Yossarian?

I unsubscribed pretty quick, so you could use it to say stuff you don't want me to hear...

Do you want to point out that barteq forgot to end turn and if he does you get to play turn 1?

Ok, so we've played a couple turns since the last report. Nothing too exciting going on yet.

So that ice and tundra to our north is looking pretty horrible. Combined with the nasty desert and peaks to our east, it looks like we're going to be pushing south and west to start. Care Bears were the only team not to settle on T0. One team has all land tiles in their first city. My guess would be that this is Care Bears, and that we were all started on a coast. Of course, it could also be M&M or Eggheads, since they were the last two to settle on T0, and I didn't get a shot of the demos afterwards. Another interesting note is that Care Bears have the top ranked city in the world, despite settling one turn late, so I guess the move was worth it.

More crappy tundra and ice to our north, but at least there are some food resources up there. Maybe we'll get a filler city up there on the ice hill northeast of the deer or the ice southwest of the crabs. No changes to the demos (that I noticed).

We need to decide on our tech by tomorrow. We have until t12 to figure out whether we go with a one worker start or two worker, but that will basically be decided by tech. With bw, two workers are probably better, with ah one worker should be ok before the settler. I'm going to try to run one or two more tests, otherwise I think I'm leaning towards bw and two workers.
