Adlain Wrote:how about detailed Worker Spreadsheets ala Sullla & Speaker
I think most people here haven't seen the spreadsheets that I've done before. Back in the day, I'd use a spreadsheet to explain to turnplayers where all of the city labourers and the workers would have to move in demogames. I'd have to do this, because they needed the instruction and the rest of the team needed to double check for minor typing mistakes. Here is an example of what they've evolved into: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=...4RlE&hl=en
The plans themselves would come from a combination of detailed simulations run from saves, mock ups of the in game situation via worldbuilder (or the map editor in Civ 3), and brainstorming between me and the one person I would use as a soundboard for that game. They were used to validate what I'd come up with after thinking what I'd like to do. I've seen players use automated spreadsheets to calculate the most efficient method of doing something, but most of the time I think it is easier to make a simulation.
Since I started in RBPB1 however, I've been operating in a much more relaxed setting: I'm doing both the planning and the turn playing, so I don't need a method to either explain to other players, only to remember the MM. In fact I've gotten to the point now where I don't even need a save to run the simulations, I can do it in my head. I could create a spreadsheet, but in these conditions it is just showing off. I'd prefer to show off by playing a good game instead of using l33t secretarial skillz.
If anything interesting comes up I'll probably write it up and explain it to the lurkers, but at this stage of the game, with 1 worker, that isn't likely to happen

Krill's write-ups are more enjoyable to read for me than spreadsheets. The most interesting thing is the thoughts of the player i think rather than which turn their worker will cut down some more trees.
Thanks for regular updating.

I would have updated this morning on a newly developing situation, but I didn't have time before I had to run to work.
I have now met Dantski and Mukha. I plan on writing an email after I send along the RB PBEM 2 save.

Dantskis' capital is 12W17N of my capital. 17 tiles distance, basically 1 extra city away compared to Lobo. I wouldn't be surprised to find another player 17W and 2N +/- 5 of either.

I'll have to hold back off researching Polytheism for about 2 turns, but I can't get the settler out any quicker...

So do you think Portugal could be a potential longterm ally?

You can never please everybody, so don't try. So far I've met 2 of 16 competitors, and killed one of them, so I'm still within my quota of friends AFAICT.
But I'm not sure. Dantski isn't a player that I'm afraid of attacking me, he is too far away, and has other threats much closer to home (or should do). He is playing as Willem, which is a beast of a leader for the early game, even if his civ is a complete nonentity (Portugal). Long term I don't have much to worry about from him either, provided I get a couple of religions, even his advantage of cheap culture buildings won't overpower 3 Cathedrals in a border city. But he isn't much of a threat to anyone else, unless Mukha is helping him formulate strategies and create some decent MM, so I can't rely on him alone to help protect my northern territories. I probably need another northern or western ally to block off a large section of my borders if I get into bed with Dantski. And he probably knows who is the top in that relationship, so that's a plus...
At the very least I want to be friendly with him, to the extent that he doesn't feel threatened by me and feels he has to do something about it. I do think he is a good candidate to tech towards Alphabet though, as with his cheap libs he could decide to go for the early academy. I think I could groom him to be a decent tech partner.
So until I meet another couple of neighbours, I'm going to try and make him an ally, and help him out. If the situation changes in the near future, then I'l have to reconsider our positions.

From Mukski. Pretty solid opening letter IMO
Quote:Hello Krill,
Thanks for finding us, we sure could use the research discount. Glad to hear your warrior has peaceful intentions although we should warn you our warriors aren't pushovers should relations change in future. One even killed a Lion.
We're happy to share our thoughts on the map - we think it's a 64x64 Modified Team Battleground with 6 lake tiles - go Portugal eh? (I blame my teammate for that choice) You're also the first civ we have contact with so we would appreciate any information on other civs you have found.
Looking forward to a fruitful trade relationship.
Mukha and Dantski..
