Is there anything in the game rules saying I can't gift Yuri these 18 caravels? I was going to use them against scooter myself, but it'll be easier to coordinate under Yuri;'s command.

You didn’t forbid unit gifting, but 18 caravels are a substantial number.
How got is your ability to defend against Yuri when you gift him the caravels ?
If they got a significant hit, I would say no.

In general I see the same problem here again.

There might be a fun loophole there - if both of you gifted them back and forth every turn, then neither of you would ever be paying maintenance on them

I don't know of anything banning the gift, but I don't know if there's some unwritten (or written somewhere) standard set of rules for RB that would be in effect. Do you want someone to ask in the public thread on your behalf so it's not known it's you?

My ability to defend against Yuri would be hurt sa great deal, but Scooter is running away with the game, and Scooter declared war against SD then also Yuri, so I declared war on Scooter.

I expect that Scooter will defeat all of us even if Cairo joins in. In fact, that also makes me think he wouldn't complain much despite being the "victim".

Sure, yes please!

It's 18 caravels, I don't have astronomy yet but everyone else has had it for a long time. So they're my best defensive naval option, but increasingly obsolete.

Due to their quantity, I'm hoping that 2nd strongest player can use them to support a naval invasion (samurai vs grenadiers) of 1st strongest player (who has frigates). I lack a suitable land army.

Unit gifting has been default banned for a while now. The diplo game being the only recent exception.

Civ 4 PBEM 23. A knight stack gifted by player 1 in turn order to player 2 moved 2 turns worth of movement to attack player 3.

Then there was the great people gifting stuff.
