I have definite opinions on those decisions. If it makes more sense for me to just decide, I will do that.

I think it would be interesting to see the players get powerful combos again and see how they go. Especially as there are 9/10 teams as opposed to the 5/6 in PBEMs.
There will be more variety simply by the greater amount of teams in the game.
After all the discussion we would end up doing it tradiotional way. I hope not.
It is easy to guess pretty good approximation of the end result. There won't be many players experimenting and we would probably end up having probably these:
* Willem, Pacal, Elizabeth, Sury, Mansa Musa
* Expansive India and Inca (e.g. Joao)
* Organized HRE (e.g. Darius)
* Agressive Rome (e.g. Ragnar)
* Mali, Ottomans, Maya, Byzantium...

Ok, I'll play Gold. I've become to PBEM4 what Cull is to FFHPBEM1 (sorry Cull!) but really that's the fault of the PBEM system and I not being too compatible and of course the demo bug in PBEM4 which makes me not enjoy the game. No promises about reporting, but playing this shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, I just read your PBEM4 thread. Talk about "going dark."
I am going to make a decision on rules and post a turn order for picking in the next hour.

Selection order w/ snake pick:
1. Mackoti + Ioan76
2. Atlas
3. Adlain
4. plako
5. Locke + Cervantes
6. sunrise089
7. Luddite + Atlas1998
8. Lord Parkin
9. Nakor
10. Sleeping Moogle
11. Sleeping Moogle
12. Nakor
13. Lord Parkin
14. Luddite + Atlas1998
15. sunrise089
16. Locke + Cervantes
17. plako
18. Adlain
19. Atlas
20. Mackoti + Ioan76
FINAL RULINGS:
1. Tatan's Ban List will be used, plus HC and Vicky are banned: this will just make for a more interesting game.
6. Barbs are OFF: under the notion that random is bad in a strategy game.
7. Map-trading at initial contact: easier and gives something to do diplo wise early on.
10. Ivory is up to Krill. War Elephants and any related UU are banned.
11. No pauses unless we are looking for a replacement player or settling some sort of game dispute. I think if you give everyone one pause, it opens the can of worms for more pauses. This way, everyone knows that there is the potential for missed turns and movement and build queues should be adjusted accordingly. If this concerns you, that is why we have dedlurkers and teammates--grab one.
IN ADDITION:
If I am arbitrating this thing, the main thing to keep in mind is the general Fair Play ideals of this website. I don't think everything needs to be spelled out for that ideal to govern unlegislated behavior. When a dispute inevitably arrives, I will try to keep an open mind and actually contemplate arguments made for and against a certain position, and I will definitely value the opinion of veteran lurkers. Again, that is how I see it if I am watching over this shindig. I am a lawyer by trade. I have a fairly thick-skin. So long as I do my best to be fair and impartial, I could care less whether I am liked or not. I don't know any of you in real life. If I am not respected enough around here, or you feel there needs to be a panel of decision-makers, I am not going to take offense.
Any other information you need Krill?
Any housekeeping left before selections begin?
I will post the leaders/civs that are banned in the next post for quick reference.
First post is updated with all relevant information.
