[SPOILERS] Kurumi & wetbandit serve you Hannibal's Breakfast Cocktail (of Persia)

Whatever ends up happening, I'll probably dedlurk this start even if I don't succeed to the actual turnplaying position. Thanks for the legwork so far teleh!

So uhm,
I AM TAKING OVER THIS THREAD!

Together with wetbandit, of course.
So nobody knows me on these forums. I think that is true for bandit as well given his post count. That's great...
I'll tell you something: I am insane.
How much do I know about Civ? Well, enough. Multiplayer games? Mostly fun with friends... I am playing a modded PB on another forums since end of November, not doing too hot, but I tackled guy in top3 and was very close to ruining his nation, but since it is a diplo game past war bit me in the ass and I came short of some units to burn Athens... Glorious day it'd be...
I do not play with numbers. I do not see through demos, I take what I see.
That's all for now~
Yeah, I'm not happy about my past behaviour either. shakehead

We(they?) have their own.
http://civilization.org.pl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36258 it is in polish though. Entire ruleset. Point 3 is changed stuff. I can translate one day if you are really interested.

Google translate does most of it, but thanks for the link.

Well, we can try to make a good first impression on our first game here, at least. I am new to the forums, so take that for what it's worth (hint: not much). Sounds like you're considerably more experienced with MP Civ than me, so I'll defer on strategy, for the most part. I've logged a good deal of SP Civ and have lurked here for more time than I'm willing to admit. I can try to pay attention to the demos and cover that end. If we get any useful information out of it, we'll take it.

That aside, our biggest issue will be our start, which, aside from praying for an agriculture resource 2S, requires some thinking. Tile bleed looks like there's more land to our east and south. What are your thoughts on scouting and initial tech? I agree that there's value in figuring out if we will orphan seafood to our NW, but with our techs and our start, we won't be fast.

A game in Polish? If English is your second language, you write very well.

Posting the settings from the first page, seems like the thing to do.

Game Settings:

Mods: None, visual interface only allowed (as long as it doesn’t break the PB server), no mods which provide additional automated info
Map: Random settings determined by mapmaker; no ‘ILOSE button’ starts but no guarantee of perfect balance
Civilization Picks (Unbound leaders): ‘Random’ list rolled with best and worst removed. Randomly assigned with lurker discretion for balance & previously played.
Diplomacy: AI diplo only
Espionage: Can't build spies, Great Spies must be settled or used for Golden Age
Technology Trading: Off
Barbs, Huts, Events - On / Off / Off
Bans: Corporations, War Elephants, Blockades, Nukes (& India)
Start: All Civs start with a scout rather than their default unit
Normal Speed
24h Turn Timer (48h for First Turn)
No cheese gifting etc (not quite a setting, but nevertheless)

Turn Timer & Gameplay: 24 hours (adjusted for realtime). Real Life delays are okay but make sure to let someone know as soon as you can if a delay is involved (eg tech thread post, email, PM etc). If things happen in RL which change the ability to regularly play, say so and consider bowing out gracefully

Turns & War: Simultaneous turns, no double moves. Gentleman’s understanding of ‘fair play’. If you feel you’re getting an unfair advantage based on turn split vagaries, ask (in your Spoiler thread or shout out that you need a hand in the Q&A thread)
When a player makes a Declaration of War, they must play after the other player on subsequent turns, until peace is made.
A third or subsequent player DoWing in the same fray becomes the new last in the turn order, in order of declaration. Any confusion or grey areas could rely on experienced player advice direct to warring parties’ spoiler thread (or a shout out for Spoiler help to the Q&A or tech thread if needed), however if that is not available then last player to DoW is now last in the turn order. (up for discussion)

Updates Recommendation: City-screen and overview updates at turns 10, 20 and 50 is recommended for posterity. Additional updates are excellent!

Why not make it a bad impression? Will make things easier for future games... I lurked these forums for a short period of time, so I got to know player's styles a bit (You are one crazy folk, let me tell you, counting every bead on your counter, scrambling for just one turn faster workboat... I feel like a child and a fool!) but it is moot here because of this being a Greens Game (besides Azza and the Unholy Hydra from Outer Space aka boldlytyrantingbricks).
As for agri res 2S, that'd be too nice. 5 food resources for a start? That's just too good. I think we sadly need to greet our unfitting start with open arms. Scouting is 1S, no doubt about that. I'd settle capital in place... I just don't see a good spot and freshwater is just too good to pass up. If it wasn't a lake 1SE +1S, I'd settle on 1SE so we can get another spot on that green peninsula above plains cow. But yeah, that's not even wishful thinking. Tech? I don't think AH is going to be that hot.. unless we have horse on that green peninsula and a neighbour nearby, but distances are usually big enough to muster up a late defence on these maps. We could go Fishing-Mining-BW or something like that, get worker after a warrior/scout, chop out the boats. We have great leader for a coast start, so I think we're going to praise these three clams.

PS. Thanks. Trying my best wink

Here's to a bad impression then! Never too early to meta-game.

I reluctantly agree that I think we're going to be stuck settling in place. Moving the Capital to what looks like a Moai location would put us behind since we will need these forests are going to need to be chopped to help us catch up. Settling 1SE would shut our capital out of the clams for the near future. It looks like there is land 3E that can share at least one of the clams later on.

I think that bare grassland 2S will hold a resource of some kind, I reserve the right to pray for Corn.

I don't see what going fishing first gets us right away, but the problem then is if we go mining-bw and worker first, we end up spending many turns with a worker not doing much but observing the natural beauty of the cows and trees. Our first worker will take about 15 turns either way, and we won't have much to do with him. Even if we beelined BW, we would not have both until, what T24 or so?

This leads me to the crazy idea of moving 1E, this would open up the GLH or forested plains tile 3W for a potential city. This city can share some cap resources. We would lose 4 forests (GJH forest, 2 plains forests, + the forest on the city tile). It's not clear exactly what tiles we would gain and may just be a silly risk. This gives us the option of at least farming the riverside PL to give the worker something to do before chopping, although that's not great of a tile anyway. We would still have 7 forests in the cap's BFC if we moved. We would have a helpful 2nd city that can share cows (whenever they get hooked up) and one clam to get started.

As soon as we hit BW, we move to fishing, and use the worker to chop another worker. Then spam workboats with chops and grow.

Even if we don't move, I don't think we should run fishing first, we clearly need to get a worker out and start chopping ASAP. Slow building a workboat and then starting a worker doesn't seem like it's the best return off the top of my head.

I guess I'd need to run some concrete numbers to see if this makes sense.

So, what do you think of Hannibal of Persia as a combo?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
