I'm not really into a teamer at this point, unless it's a game where everyone does their own thing except coordinate high level like tech, etc. which doesn't sound very team-ish wink

A casual game for my first one back, where I can make irreverant statements and have a stupid naming convention and build too many chariots during the age of knights seems like a good one wink

Don't care about the map script, as long as the starts are of similar power to each other.

I'm not that fussed about map script, with the except of hub: I'd rather play Wheel, Ring or, at a push Inland sea. Another choice which can be fun in a teamer is a Highlands based script, but they require a lot of work to make playable. Any multiparty game could be a lot more fun if people want to actually talk in sub fora like with PB6.

I'm also fine with a standard FFA, but a 4v4 medieval game would probably be a lot quicker to run a test on.

What’s your reasoning against hub? I’ve played a few times in ladder style games and it seemed ok - wheel doesn’t seem to be much of an improvement unless there’s something I’m missing.
I don’t think a 4v4 would be a good idea - the former two options are preferable.

Edit/Clarification:

I'm not sure how teamers here would be played. If no communication is allowed even between teammates, then there's no real downside to a 4v4. (Also, how would turn splits work then... one side is perpetually second/first? Mandate switching turn halves every so often? bleh).

If communication between teammates is allowed, a 4v4 would probably be slower than a full diplo game of the same size just due to the desire for everyone to be in agreement on research and further plans.
Then, 3v3 would be more reasonable, as would 2v2v2v2 (the latter would be nice on an inland sea map).

Hub was only ever used for ironman games in the CCC, right? And comparing that to what we play with so much more experience is, well, it fit the needs then, but doesn't really meet the needs now. Or what Charriu was looking for in a Pangaea with players interacting early on.

I don't like it because it's contrived and no matter how you balance the game, it's just island hopping to another spoke and there is no competition for the other spokes land. The strategy is always the same. Wheel at least gives more competition for land, but Ring isn't great. At least there are inner and outer seas so there's a bit of nuance to the map.

When it comes to teamers, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to play a sequential game, rather than simultaneous. 24 hours per turn, a turn every 2 days. And frankly, I call bullshit on the talking. People talk too much. No pauses. Playing a turn every 48 hours should never be difficult, not when the team has enough players to sub if needed.

And I'm fine with any start, on pretty much any map type. Well, I'd prefer a map where everyone is on the same landmass, because war across the water is kind of slow, since units cannot embark and debark in the same turn, even if the boat only goes 1 tile. But I'll go along with the majority.

What do you guys think about closing signups with October 1? From my side of view 5 players would be enough for a test run, but in the end you have to play.

I see that you discussed map type quite extensively. I have to agree with Krill about Hub when it comes to player interaction.

From my side of view a later era start is not a problem for any bug hunts.

We are also missing more input about map types from some players (I'm looking at you Ruff_Hi) smile

Works for me.

All I want for a map is either everyone on their own landmass or everyone on the same landmass. I'd prefer everyone on the same landmass, of course.

I will be entirely honest: my understanding is we are testing for bugs, right? Not looking for game mechanics issues, but for errors in the integration of RtR and BUG?

If so, and everyone wants to play an ancient era FFA, I am happy to play whatever. I'm not fussed about the map script, or pick method. I'll be playing to test.

Happy to play looking for bugs. That can be the win condition ... most bugs found per turn survived?
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.
