Oh really now, come on.  Everyone who plays these games gets emotionally invested in them. Don't try to sit on the sidelines here and get all sanctimonious. You guys are all just as guilty of the same thing. Remember your team's stance about Parkin from Pitboss #4, Gaspar? If Seven Spirits and mackoti (or whoever) want to let off some steam in their own thread, they should be allowed to do so. As long as they aren't crossing the line in verbally harassing players (note: this may actually be happening) they aren't hurting anyone.
As someone who has been in the same position before, I can tell you how incredibly irritating it is to have people who aren't even playing in said game jumping in and criticizing your reactions. Hey, you know what? You aren't playing in this game. You don't know how it feels. Cut them some slack.
I have all sorts of opinions about the various controversies in this game, but I'm not posting on them because I don't want to affect the players. I'm not in this game. Let the players sort things out, NOT the lurkers. I would have lost my mind over the crap Parkin has pulled, but as I said, it's not my problem here. (You won't ever see me in a game with Parkin again though.)

If players are really frustrated by other players, that's totally legitimate and they deserve to be able to react angrily if that's how they feel for sure and lurkers shouldn't be posting in a players thread to say "calm down" or whatever unless it gets out of hand (attacking people's character like you mentioned, Sullla).
two points I would clarify though. 1) It can be a fine line between criticizing a player's play and the player directly and it often comes down to wording nuance which an understandably upset in the moment player isn't always paying the closest attention to.
2) I do think it is not unreasonable to comment that some players are less understanding of other player's perspectives. That's not a character judgment but an observation. If anyone has ever done a "StrengthsFinder" test for work or something, you'll note that every strength is usually associated with certain other challenges. Being focused, skilled and heavily invested are skills but they OFTEN (though not always) make it harder to appreciate someone else's perspective.

I admit that I have not read every player thread all the time for this game, but I am fairly certain that there has not been any epidemic of people "jumping in" to personally lambaste anyone in their own thread. As for the occasionally negative comments made in this thread, that's sort of what Lurker Threads are for? Lord knows I have occasionally stridently disagreed with some of the lurker criticisms written about my play in certain games where I have participated, but I also know that having an outlet to freely express critical commentary is a fundamental aspect of why Lurker threads exist.

I don't think you can make such a sweeping generalization (see for example Ilios in FFH2). Some people just play for the fun of it, and to be part of a cool community. That said, I do agree its irritating to open up a lurker thread only to find everyone thinks I'm an evil bastard. It helped me to keep in mind that lurkers are the worst kind of scum  .

I agree that players have a right to say what they'd like in their own thread. I also agree its not the lurkers place to say anything about it to them. But as Bob said, lurker threads exist for the players on the sidelines to criticize the players. I've had some terribly unkind things said about me in lurker threads - highlight for example Bob in the PBEM14 lurker thread likening my relationship to Roland to a sadomasochism fetish - but I understand, as Darrell so eloquently put it, lurkers are assholes.
But I'm not criticizing blowing off steam, I'm criticizing a particular attitude. Or more specifically, I'm indicating that there is a reason why these players get criticized so frequently for their attitudes.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
