Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Metal Casting? I think that has been the only tech proposed. Is there anything else worthwhile that we could shoot for?

I agree. We've only just got writing, so there's nothing that expensive on that side of the tech tree. How about settling copper next for colossus?

What then? Head for hereditary rule? We've only got gold and ivory for happy at the moment... I wonder if we need to start exploring islands for moar resources...

Hang on, is hbr an option? Should we go kick some ass?

Turn 66

Trac II finds more horses, this is the route I'm planning to send him:

Up north Adjustable Telematic is going this way:

Next turn our settler will found Blade Runner - we'll chop in a granary in three turns, then slow-build a work boat, then hope pray for a religion spread to let us work the fish...

I was thinking about whipping an archer with the growing pop next turn in Smooth Criminal to give 37 hammers overflow, but we'd lose some of that overflow wouldn't we? Instead I've started a worker build just until there is an improved tile for the extra pop to work or to allow us to whip it away.

Two turns to Oracle. Once the chops come in I plan to put in one mine and lots of cottages along the river. Would anyone prefer farming the river?

More work on the library. We've got a chop coming in next turn which could go into the settler that has 27 hammers in it, but I'm tempted to dump the chop in the the library. Any thoughts?

Power - you can see pirates' and M3's fight, we're still a fair bit adrift of Trolls and M3.

Demos

Is there anything else you guys want reporting - where I'm making decisions like the worker in Smooth should I be putting it up for debate, or is it best to keep the turns rolling asap (I haven't done that very well today...)

I'd say go ahead and make those decisions to keep the turns rolling. You've been doing a great job, thanks!

Yeah, let the chop go into the library. That seems more important than a settler right now.

Nice job, guys. Sorry I haven't been around much. One thing, however: With Blade Runner, we can no longer settle a city on the mainland to work the crabs. Certainly not a big deal, since we have plenty of other nice spots to settle, especially in the East and North. Working the horse, Blade Runner will actually have a little bit of production. Should we think about building a monument there, as painful as that is?

As for tech, I think monarchy is a fair goal. Horseback riding can wait, I think, since I don't particularly want to go on the offensive right now. Demos look nice.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I agree with Mero that HBR and attacking shouldn't be a priority. Much better to get the Forges from MC.

Good point - there is that plains island that could use the crab, I guess that's a while away, but isn't there something about overseas trade routes? I was assuming we'd build Maoi Statues in Blade Runner, but it could go on the island for more workable water...

Okay, masonry will complete this turn, then onto Monarchy.

I guess we want to get Maths before we chop any further trees down, then currency? Or would you rather bee-line Literature for the Great Library? It looks like C&D is up to date to t52 (if I'm looking at the right spreadsheet) at which point no-one had writing, it'll be good to know who has it now.

I don't think I've seen any resources that require Calendar - maybe they'll all be offshore - so a diversion just for MOM doesn't seem like a great idea yet. Have we got any other options?

Do we really need HR right now for the happy? If not, might it be better to skip it for now and go straight into Maths-->Currency?

Yup, we just have the one spreadsheet, accessible by clicking on the link in the first post of the C&D thread. The tech tab should not be viewed as definitive, these have just been my guesses based mostly on how long it took a team to complete a tech, but I could be way off there. I think when I was looking over it yesterday, I even found an example where I gave someone Pottery before Wheel, or BW before Mining, or something silly like that. At any rate, I am predicting that TEAM got Writing on T59, and Pirates got Writing on T60. I'll look again tonight at the post-T60 techs researched. The Score tab in the spreadsheet (the first one) should be updated with all score increases/decreases through T66, as well as a tentative description of what caused the increase / decrease.

Yeah, that's how I've been doing C&D in other games - I'm just waiting for tech trading to find out just how badly wrong I've got it! lol

Your work looked pretty convincing to me so far though. If the others got writing already maybe we're better concentrating on expansion and Colossus...

Just logged in and spotted a Troll Axe over the lake from Trac II, I'm going to move next to him unless someone shouts in the next 20 mins. I think we should send them an email saying hello, NAP to t100 and we'd like a border like this please:

We could mention that we're sending the warrior down to finish scouting the area... And the southern-most city hasn't been fully explored, so may change.
