Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Catherine of China

Yes. Despite of my earlier sayings I decided to turn it on. We get Great Scientist in 4Tand I think academy makes most sense.

Yes I remember writing that wink and in case you haven't noticed yet, I chop and change all the time. All my plans are outdated approximately in 3 turns lol.

In this case it just seems a big waste. Our slider will be low so Academy is questionable, but I really don't want to settle either without Representation and there is nothing sensible to bulb so I just build the Academy and collect gold so that we'll win ~40 beakers within next 10T because of binary research. We've also another Livbrary about to finish that also makes few beakers more within similar time range.

Does running binary research make an Academy more effective? I wouldn't think so?

I thought buildings didn't start hammer decay until 50 turns had passed?

You save gold before you have the academy down, then research when you have it in the city. Basically, is it better to research with the academy or without it?

Well if the average slider is very low then a settled GSci produces more science than an Academy. If you've decided to build the Academy then naturally saving gold first makes sense.

Alright, I had to calculate and obvivously change my mind again wink.

If we assume 40% slider rate we would need ~40 commerce to make settling and Academy ~equal. I don't have any city that would reach that any time soon. However, if we would put academy on a city that runs also 2 scientists full time 25 commerce would make things break even. Again there aren't any city which would generate 25 commerce and also be able to work 2 Scientists at the same time. So it clearly seems that settling would be the way to go and try to generate another Scientists for an Academy.

Another question is where should we settle and found the Academy. Capital seems best assuming we can get our slider up at some point. If it stays low, then some kind Scientist farm might be better, but I think our best candidate for a Great Person farm hasn't yet been founded (city north from Afaik) so Capital it is (for now).

Have you thought of bulbing MC or something?

Would speed up the whole killing WarriorKnight thing as well as get us +2 smiles from gold and silver.

Alphabet is probably the bulb preference, pretty useless tech.

I haven't really looked, but I suspect Alphabet is high in the bulbing order of Scientist. Merchant might have MC high so that is an option after we get market up somewhere.
