[SPOILERS] RB PB7 LURKER Thread

Kyan Wrote:In my opinion, ASM is fucking mental and should be banned from RB for how far beyond the line he stepped. Of course, there are many, many good reasons why i'm not a moderator. lol
The chief reason was that he's playing in Pitboss 6 too which is cruising along just fine. It's not right to blow up the party for 11 other players there over an argument in a different game.

Besides, a forum ban really doesn't do anything against ASM trying to hack LP's router or whatever else he was doing. I'd rather let ASM blow up his own reputation and let folks decide for themselves.

Technically speaking T-hawk, you have zero jurisdiction over any of the games on this site. Banning a poster doesn't stop them from playing their PBEMs or PB games, it just stops them from posting.
Current games (All): RtR: PB83

Ended games (Selection): BTS games: PB1, PB3, PBEM2, PBEM4, PBEM5B, PBEM50. RB mod games: PB5, PB15, PB27, PB37, PB42, PB46, PB71 PB80. FFH games: PBEMVII, PBEMXII. Civ 6:  PBEM22 PBEM23Games ded lurked: PB18

Please don't take that as a dig at you mate. With this moderating lark, you've been thrown in at the deep end. With sharks. Covered in chum.

And you're doing a fantabulastic job of surviving too. Three cheers for T-Hawk!

Gaspar Wrote:I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this but I think its absolutely no coincidence that the players who are most vehemently sticking up for LP in this thread haven't played any games here. His name has nothing to do with it - he was completely unknown to the playerbase here prior to PB4 and managed to piss off virtually everyone he was playing against with the notable exception of rego and sunrise. Its really his attitude.

Someone upthread made a comment about "so what if he logs into the game a lot" as though his turn-timer games are only related to that. In PB4 he engineered it so he played last for something like literally 90% of the turns despite logging in with the opportunity to end turn also literally dozens of times each turn. I wasn't stupid enough to signup for another pitboss after that experience but from listening to the other players he was doing precisely the same sorts of things here.

I've chatted with him a bit in other venues and I don't think he's a lousy human being. I think he completely and utterly lacks self-awareness and empathy. But he's not doing it on purpose, he cannot help it, its who he is.

That said, I 1000% agree that ASM and Azza's ire is mostly directed to cover up the level of smoke they have been perpetrating. And I also think after a while he's become a pantomime villain. But the idea that he's somehow poor, misunderstood, picked-on Parkin is patently absurd - he's made his own bed with his actions and if is thoroughness with combat sims doesn't show you that - he is also completely aware of what he is doing.

I would probably fall in the category of people who are sticking for LP, and I've played several games with him. I don't find him to be a bad person, and I think all the hatred is really blown out of proportion and is mostly the fault of ASM.

Having played (briefly) with LP, I do have sympathy for him, though I understand how annoying some of the stuff he does can be.

My only real issue with him was the multiple log ins, which (I believe) are after he presses end turn.

I may be wrong, but I believe that when I made the stupid mistake of leaving my capital unguarded, I think he had already logged in and ended turn, so I 'assumed' none of his units had movement points left so I could attack the chariot in range and then have the newly whipped spear defend the city when the turn rolled.

Its still much more of a weed move on my part than anything else (I should not have left it undefended or played a pbem turn just before and think that the spearman would instantly appear), but it is confusing and a little annoying at times to have someone end turn and then still log in and move again.

But again, its not against the rules, its dependent on noobish moves by his opponents (which Azza, ASM and myself readily provided) and so some of the pretty strong condemnation is perhaps a little too much.

I think Gaspar once observed that Pitboss games bring out the worst in people. But it is worse than that: The more obnoxious players are pushing the more relaxed players away (see comments by SleepingMoogle and Meiz), while teaching some of the newer players that it's fine to be obnoxious. All this is bad for the long-term health of the community, beyond the game being played.

ASM's latest contribution to Azza's thread contains instructions for breaking the game save. In effect they've posted, "we're losing, so let's cheat to stop our opponent winning." That's simply unacceptable behaviour in any multiplayer community, not least one with RB's reputation. There should be no if, buts, or maybes.

Lastly a Quote of the Day candidate:

"If we had about seven more chariots in Blackfeet, we'd be in great shape."

I don't think I have posted anything like LP is a poor misunderstood saint or so.

Clock-playing has happened in games before LP too. (Read Sulla/Speakers thread were they explicitly state why they do it). A lot of the hatred for LP comes because in PB4 he outplayed the lot of you via Diplo.( That naturally hurts alot more than beeing outplayed via MM-skills).

People didn't like it then, either.

Clock-playing once in a blue moon is fairly different than clock-playing every...single...turn.
