What do you mean, wasteland? (Almost) Every city has a food resource.

@ Civac, on map making in general: The alternative to land bridges is to just have undesirable terrain between civs. Desert, jungle, peaks, plains, low food etc.
The other alternative is to have no clear border areas, line in PB56. *shudder* having less than 1 solid food per city is agonizing.
ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT MY PB56 MAP?
.... thats fair

That's how it should be. Then the players can come to a mutually acceptable compromise or have a proper knife fight over the border area. Either way works fine.
Ya again land bridges are a nice break for that once in a while, but quick game! Again up to map maker as all hail map makers who we will criticize heavily later!!! but were really nice to make the map.
PB55 a lot of people were wondering why Amica never really contested Civac for territory, but it was mainly because it had a nice natural border. Jungle area between Amica and Jowy made a nice early barrier and then turned bloody. Charriu and I PB52 floodplain valley. Bloody right way. It doesn't have to be land bridge.

PB55 was a much more natural map. The land between Amicalola and me was pretty bad. Neither of us settled it early and Amicalola got the best location there was in the border area. Conversely, the land between AT and me was fantastic and we both settled it quite aggressively, there was even a short war over it.

I agree with what Mjmd said; ultimately I trust the mapmaker, but given the votes I would probably be aiming for ~120 minimum per player.
PB55 map was overall a great example of how to do a natural map with these types of borders, like Civac said. Not that I have a problem with land bridges either; the 58 map is fantastic.
Did we decide on Emperor (with no barbs) for difficulty?

55, 54, 52, 51, 50, 49, 48, 47, 46, now my memory is fading... but narrow or low yield border areas
are not a gold standard by any means.

@SD is that a vote change to emperor? We also still need a decision on War Wariness.
@Tarkeel - can we get approximate # of tiles per player that you ended up on (understanding it may change a bit) and size.
@Any lurker / Tarkeel: snake pick order please.

Tiles per player is roughly 130 now, but I'm working on trimming it down; some of it will also be peaks and the like. Map size is standard, unless you vote to change it to something else. (PB58 might have been better played on large, but standard it was).
I'd prefer if someone else could roll the pick order.
