By city elimination you mean to knock someone you you have to raze two of their cities? I'd rather not play that way myself.

You can set it to any number. Obviously it leads to much more decisive wars. It also keeps players much more honest about defense.

If we are going to randomize leader assignment (and I think we should) let's just come up with a list in the forum that is balanced. Gonna be a lot faster than a snake pick. I'll start us off, how about:
Pacal of Byzantium
Washington of China
Willem of Greece
Sury of Maya
Joao of Inca
Hatty of India
This isn't supposed to be a super munchkin list, just a nice balanced list that will lead to a fun game .

I agree - I think it is better for greens to get free reign on choices - though I am wondering whether restricted leaders may be better at avoiding imbalance

No offence, but I don't really trust rookies who haven't played in this sort of game before to make balanced decisions when it comes to unrestricted leaders. Restricted leaders is no where near balanced unless you allow duplicates, in which case pick one of Pacal or Sury. Snake pick is the best way to get balanced combos.

But I thought that was part of the challenge with having two games? Same map and same civs and see how the greens/vets deal with them.

So these two statements taken in tandem imply that you want the greens to pick the civs and the vets to play them. I'm kind of with Krill on this one that the vets should pick the civs...of course I might be biased .
Pacal of Byz might be unbalanced. I guess let's decide first how we want to select and allocate leaders before we go any further on my list.

The same civs is fine - but the combinations have to be balanced, or it's going to be a lopsided game. As Darrell has said, effectively the vets end up playing combos we have no control over, and no effect on the balance. The best way would be everyone to work together to come up with a balanced lists of 6, or for a proper snake pick to occur with 1 vet and 1 rookie paired for each pick - but then, the vet is more experienced and probably gets the deciding vote, so doing everything publicaly works out fine.

I see Krill and Darrell's opinion and totally understand them.
I don't think making a list like Darrell's is the answer though..
Washington of China vs Pacal of Byz ?
How about this- the greens pick snake pick style unrestricted... BUT
the vets which are already assigned get one veto to use on either call if they want to. However, no contact can be made between the mirrors. It's kind of awkward but it avoids any strange situations or totally rubbish combo's.
As for map- i agree with inland sea, noble, no barbs. That's all fine. No tech trading is cool too. I'd be heavily against a city elimination limit though. Let's just play that one by the normal rules?
