England is my "dark horse" team to win this year...but I definitely root for Spain. I'd rather choke with style than win like Italy 2006. I also think Ivory Coast will edge out Portugal (and yes I know Drogba is hurt). My top 5 this year:
Spain
England
Germany
Brazil
Argentina (but only if Maradona goes on safari)
Netherlands is trendy but I don't have a good vibe for some reason.

I would have no problem seeing Portugal and Ronaldo getting their butts handed to them, and Sven is definitely a coach who could pull it off.
But...

Group C (England, USA) and Group D (Germany, Australia) is interesting as they play each other in the 2nd round.
If either England or Germany qualify in 2nd place, we could have a good old grudge match.
Aussies did well last time, eventually being *ahem* edged out by Italy, wouldn't be surprised to see them qualify second in Group D, to face England next.

Yeah, still working on the unresolved anger issues.

I've still got a decent part of that red square to explore, will do it with warriors after the Stasis is over.
Hopefully there'll be a couple of food resources in it.
If not, then I am pretty screwed though.
Regarding my starting city:
I've complained about it being coastal when most seem to have all land, but having 1 coastal city as Kuriotates isn't awful.
Lets me get a HE port and maybe a navy, as well as picking up the 3 health resources (fish/clam/crab) without having to trade for them.
But I really don't want more than one coastal city.
A crabs/cow coastal city overlapping with the capital is an absolute last resort.
Prefer to pick up the crabs with a settlement.
A more interesting debate is the following:
(I'm basing this question on my guess that everyone has 3 food and a commerce in their BFC.)
If you were balancing a map, would you give the Kuriotates the same amount of starting resources as the other civs, taking into account their limited cities and larger BFCs?
I can see both side of the arguments, and I think the oasis may be a step towards addressing that. (Realised the other day I can later upgrade it to a plains tile (4f/1h/2c?) and maybe even grassland for 5f/2c).
But a selfish part of me really wishes that I could have picked up one of those cows also.
Edit: Although saying that now, it's possible that someone could have 2 food resources and an oasis...
Ah no, wait a sec - early GNP figures tell me that's not the case.

If I was balancing a map things would look a lot different . I reiterate I didn't do anything special to this map, other than make sure there weren't any no-no's in the area.

Darrell Thankyou also Sir!
Regarding the upcoming blitz session: if we do manage to pull it off, I'll probably try and post quick updates while the save is being passed around.
So if you're online at that time, and I do start posting, hit refresh lots.

Definitely the most amusing dotmap I've seen. I look forward to seeing how you piss off that militaristic Civ over there.

Come on, the overlapping is just 2 tiles that happen to be grassland (so you can work the cottage all the time passing it from a city to the other).
But I do agree that the crab/cow site is not very sexy, with (up to now) 2 food, 10 sea, 1 mountain, 6 river (mainly plain) and no ressource. It does have 6 hills on the other hand...
