The Amurites are pretty much the strongest Civ out there....... once they get going. The trouble is getting them there in MP.

If a civ gets smothered in the cradle, they are pretty much weak by definition.

No, the Amurities don't need a boost. Several civs take a while to get going and have no early-game advantage to compensate. They don't have any weaknesses at the start of the game, just no great strengths which is fine. They'd be terribly overpowered if they could get all of their toys produced without trouble.

Just wondering, but...which civs? I can't tell anything apart from playing SP, the AI just tends to die without showing anything.

Lanun, Bannor, Sidar (they have Divided souls in the early game, but whatever those won't save you from a rush), Balseraphs, arguably the Malakim. I might be missing one or two- anyone who doesn't get any advantages in the early game which will help them to survive a rush. Middle game doesn't count as an area for weakness for the Amurites, since you can beeline and draft firebows or use the grimoire / tower of divination to grab Govannon ASAP if that's more to your style.

What are you defining as a rush?

I hate to say this, but Lanun doesn't have advantage late game as well. They're focus on sea economies mean that they'll be at their best during the middle game, (which is why they're the best for summoning), but falter at the end when their commerce starts to slow down.
So all you have are the Bannor, Sidar, Balseraphs, Malakim and Amurites. Think that's ok though.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but I think if you put all of those civs together in a restricted leaders PBEM the Amurites would not be anyone's idea of a favorite. I think part of it is that they fall victim to the fact that they're so fun to play in SP that everyone knows what they're capable of if left alone, so they're almost predestined to get hit by a neighbor before they can do much of anything about it. Particularly in that line-up just suggested I'd worry most about Amurites and Bannor if they got late. The Balseraphs really can't be compared to anyone directly, they have so many toys all over the place, but I'd say they're the mid-game Civ.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
