Plan is to convert to slavery and whip the settler so I wouldn't have been able to utilise the mine. Alternatives were farming or chopping and I think faster growth back to size 4 makes farm worth it. I just had to find room for Pottery in my research schedule to make whipping really worthwhile. Even if this capital isn't that great for whipping duty (weak food tiles) I think it is best used to support expansion and whip is the fastest way to get those settlers and especially workers out.

Converted to slavery and next turn it is time to 2 pop whip the settler and then I've ~30 overflow hammers. I'll definately finish the WB and probably then 2-3 warriors for sentry and home defense duty. Naturally things can change in case I see some wandering military units around.

Feeling the pain, yeah. It is pretty evident I need a miracle to be serious contender here lol. We'll I'll keep trying and hope for an opportunity to come and probably try to take more risks, even if that is not very natural to me. I could e.g. ignore Archery and go for economy techs like pottery.

I think we should try and get a scouting work boat and check out that island to the east soon. It'll be important to know whether that land will be worth prioritizing or not - we could get Sailing soonish to settle it.

Yeah checking that land behind the sea is very important, but I just can't see us putting hammers on scouting at this point so it has to wait for a moment. HAK reached BW and he has copper close by. Bad news for us. I might had to switch on Archery after all before finishing AH.

Some quests give units as reward, but no random events do so. afaik.
