In multiplayer, religion is never actually bad. It's just a question of competing priorities, like worker techs and Bronze Working, and the risk of wasting beakers if you aim for a religion but miss it.
If you don't get a religion, you'll need to build a monument at that city site to expand the borders. Alternatively, you might settle south of the silver instead, to have a food resource in first-ring right away instead of needing the border pop.
thank you, i appreciate your advice. monuments suck so my new plan is to try and tech budhism after bronze working and get it in my new city so i can get the culture for corn and sheep. is there a way to control which city it spreads to? it always just seems to go to the newest city for me.

If you're right about the map tessellating, you have opponents very near to your NW and SE... like right on the other side of those sheep! Any chance of getting a bit of scouting done to your north before you settle city2? Nowhere near the silver has as much food as I'd like to see for a second city.
Opponent orientation:
S'Cat -- Slow -- *YOU* -- Brick -- Azza
I gathered this from the public player thread... it looks like everyone is set on a diagonal across the map. This is similar in concept to PBEM26; peruse those threads to see how the alignment of teams led to natural rivals. The "off axis" (perpendicular to the alignment of starting positions) offered very good expansion chances with some otherwise missing resources... I expect the same opportunities here.
How do you feel your opponents are doing so far? Is all your espionage focused on Brick for now? (By that I mean have you adjusted points in the spy screen?)
Also, how big is the map?
all my spy points are on brick because i havent met anybody else. should i change when i do? i dont want anyone to see all my research.
ill go read pbem26 this evening, thank you. i like this because its like the best homework ever haha. ill do it because it helps me in a way that i actually care about.
i can only scout more if i build more units which i will do soon. my warrior is all safe at home to make sure we dont get knocked out and scout is on holiday miles away right now. do you not think the silver city is good?
thanks

A holy city will usually go to your non-capital city that is biggest and has the fewest religions. If you have just your capital and silver city, it will almost certainly go to the silver city.

Actually early on I think it's impossible to get the religion to found in your capital (the RNG plays a part but not large enough to overcome the other variables).

Spy points: My usual goal in the early game is to focus all points on one opponent until I get their graphs. Then refocus points on to the next opponent. So I'd open the esp screen now and put a '1' next to Brick, so I don't forget on the turn I meet my next opponent.
Depending on how the game goes you can later choose 1 player to try to focus on.
Silver City: You may recall from analysis by Sulla and others that early game strength = food + mfg. Silver is great, but your first settler should go claim multiple food tiles. Sheep crab maybe? Another factor which outweighs silver is copper/horse. If you don't have either of those near your capital your 2nd city really should land one or the other.

the silver city has sheep and corn. do we need more than those>
when bronze working comes in, i will show where copper is so we can decide. for now my worker is roading thw wheat and then will mine a hill and road it which would be the road all done for the silver city. if this is wrong, i can change it no sweat. ill put the 1 on brick when i get my next save, thanks for the warning.
next turn the capital grows and work boat finishes. we should build a warrior or scout after to check the north area like you said?>

Ah, I suppose there is. Seeing how there aren't updated shots of the capital in the last ~20 posts <wink, nudge> I guess I forgot.
So yeah, looking forward to bronze working for copper visibility. Also looking forward to you being able to chop stuff.
What does your tech screen look like? What are some big picture thoughts about the next 10 techs?

thanks to krill and thawk. this is my new plan then. this means we can get a religion to ourself and get the border spread. i thought about stonehenge, but early wonders dont always seem to be the best.
maybe oraclesome use, but that is not the plan right now.

hows this!
is that all the ones you wanted?
for tech, i have agriculture, mining, wheel and fishing. i am learning bronze working right now. this is the plan to tech mysticism and budhism next because that city will need the culture. we can then tech animal husbandray and pottery.
capital can build settler in 8 turns right now, but the fish will soon be better and that will make it quicker. maybe a settler next or another warrior before to defend.

Good start. :-)
How about a land shot with resources highlighted?
