SevenSpirits Wrote:To add more generally to scooter's post, I'm definitely against every team just putting out a set of votes and then finalizing the settings based on majority. The voting sheet doesn't even have some important (IMO) questions, like whether we should see starts before picking, or whether we should ban e.g. diplo victory. I figure each team can come up with a vote list fairly quickly, and then we can discuss all the contended points and write-in ideas at that point. I mean we're all ultimately on the same side for settings discussion - we want the game to be awesome.

I'd add to this that it might be good for Mist to take a pretty proactive role here in grouping settings. I think he can pretty easily see the votes and lock down 85% of the settings, and then we can discuss the 15%.

Team Darrel is almost finishing its 50 pages "Desired Ruleset" contract and its 25 pages "Settings Discussion - How to Have the Best Game Ever" report (don't worry, it comes with uncounterable proof that our desired settings are the best, not only for this game, but for life as a whole).

Stay tuned. I'm sure everyone agrees that it's better to have a six months discussion about these topics than to play a game that doesn't perfectly fits what I want, right?

Sorry, couldn't resist at taking a stab at the Civfanatics game. No harm intended. :neenernee

+1 to the above, and my comment about newbies was based on us using those restrictions in the greens game PBEM37 smile

I actually have an idea about this. Rather than wasting so much energy figuring things out, let's let people vote with their feet. We'll start up a separate game for each different possible settings combination and then simply let games die out until there's only one left. By my calculations there should be enough different ports available on sunrise's computer to make this work, although I may be off by a factor of a thousand.

We also should probably hold off on further settings discussion until after the leader pick, that way I can argue for the settings that most benefit my leader combination.

Ie, correct within three orders of magnitude. Good enough for computer science!

There is one setting that I noticed didn't make any of the lists so far. Random Events. Is this one that we want voted on, or does everyone just agree already that they should be on? I know that I want them on, since that sort of randomness and chaos just makes things more fun. Yeah, it messes with balance ever so slightly....but a game that's perfectly balanced is just boring. smile

Please for the love of god just ban random events and vassals. And the SoZ.

I'm guessing everybody agrees they should be off. For the more competitive games, excessive randomness is usually frowned upon.

Random events and vassal states are assumed off unless specified otherwise.

Krill, I'm sure if you think Statue of Zeus is that good you can easily win the race for it. Past games don't indicate it needing a ban.
