NW?

National Wonders.

I'd be tempted to go for two Fin leaders. Spi for the funder, Phi for the techer. Grab an early religion, too.
If you know what I mean.

Krill, if you meant National Wonders, where were you going with that thought?

Talked with Mackoti just now. Basically we agreed we wanted Lizzie/Mehmed/Sumeria/[England/Rome]. And that Pericles and perhaps Peter are fairly good alternates for Lizzie. So we are thinking to pick Mehmed/Sumeria right now, and get Lizzie + the other civ on the way back.

I'm posting this here now in case anyone has feedback on this and/or brilliant arguments to make against it.

Mackoti: hi
Seven: hi
so 2 industrious picks
Mackoti: so ind its a big no
right now
Seven: I guess so
Mackoti: so what about
elizabeth
with
the otoman
Seven: you mean pick those two?
Mackoti: yep
Seven: or elizabeth + mehmed
hm
Mackoti: second
eelizabeth mehmed
Seven: well if we had to pick 2 leaders now, I think I would go for that
aren't too many traits we want in spot 1
cre and phi, no
ind, not anymore
spi, I am not sure
main good ones are exp and org I suppose (plus FIN but both those combos are gone)
Mackoti: so you think pick a civ?
Seven: maybe so
looking more at start 2
with high hammers
and gems
I think EXP looks very nice
so peter would be fine
and of course pericles is good
so lots of options there
and if we don't pick a FIN over there, we could pick something like mansa in spot 1, in addition to our other options
and it's ok that he's slow, because we have a fast trait in #2
I was just looking at possible civ combos
without ind I am not such a fan of byzantium
Mackoti: me neither
Seven: (also because it's nice to be flexible)
Mackoti: will be hard to role those knigs
Seven: I think starting without mysticism will give us the best result
get all worker techs asap
and for religion we can get CoL or judaism
Mackoti: then cre will be good
or very good
Seven: yeah
so I think best civ combos with 4 non myst/hunting techs are
agri/wheel civ
plus fish/mining
Mackoti: i can bet comodore will take joa if its free
Seven: for latter probably england or rome
former we could go with egypt/sumeria
ok, so that was how far I got thinking
what do you think?
I am liking more and more the thought of peter in #2 actually
or I suppose we could consider suryavarman...
Mackoti: i am not giving up on lizie
so easy
Seven: ok
Mackoti: we could go
mehmed sumeria
now
and see for the other
Seven: let's see
I bet one of the industrious teams at least plans to get mali
so at most two other teams will pick fish/mining civs before our turn again
I would suppose
might be rome and england, then we are left with carthage or portugal
I guess that's worth it to reserve mehmed
unless we can think of other compelling leaders to put there
I guess, basically if we are willing to put a spiritual leader in #1 we aren't in a hurry to get mehmed
or joao smile
btw earlier I thought maybe charismatic could be nice. but without chance of henge, I guess it's bad
Mackoti: yep
not good
again which are the downside of Mehmed/lizie pick now?
Seven: good civs get taken
Mackoti: aha
what civs we want?
Seven: everyone else will have 2 more picks between now and our next
if we go with mehmed
I suppose sumeria goes there
so rome and england are not so impressive
so I don't know in that case
unless we want sumeria for lizzie instead
Mackoti: not bad
Seven: and mehmed to build courthouses at code of laws
Mackoti: cheaper courhose
Seven: if we want courthouses everywhere that's the way to do it
not sure if it's worth it though
Mackoti: i can bet the ind civ will pick liziie
Seven: really?
Mackoti: bismark
its a strong combo
who picked bismark?
Seven: I would guess they pick hannibal
HHHH
Mackoti: aha
might
Seven: new players + serdoa
Mackoti: aha
serdoa got IND?
he said its realy bad
Seven: no, I think he said a couple times he was really tired of playing it
Mackoti: so you think we have a shot to get lizie next turn of pickings?
Seven: well
let's see
Mackoti: comm will take joa
Seven: yeah first team will not take lizzie
Mackoti: hhh hanibal
Seven: I can't believe they will go for something that slow
RMOG with huayna, hm
Mackoti: mehmed
Seven: do you think they picked huayna for techer?
Mackoti: yep
Seven: yeah me too
Mackoti: they wil get mehmed
Seven: I think there is a decent chance no one picks lizzie
but also a chance someone will
I suppose we should take her if we like her a lot more than the other options
Mackoti: they go for oracle
Seven: peter, pericles, surya
Mackoti: and will try to get sumeria to
ind gets oracle
Seven: yeah I think there is almost zero chance we could get sumeria if we don't pick it now
Mackoti: comm will pick HRE
the landsket civ
which i think with darious its excelent
Seven: yeah
Mackoti: so lets not keep folks to much
do your proposal
and lest go from there
Seven: whats my proposal?
Mackoti: what you consider good
i said
mehamed
lizzie
Seven: you think we should pick those two right now?
Mackoti: this is what i am thinking...
what you consider we should pick?
Seven: I think we should first consider what civs we will get in that case
I doubt we can get sumeria
I guess we'd get to choose one of egypt/ottomans/france
and get rome or england, whichever is left
possibly we get less choice than that
does that seem all right?
Mackoti: yep
Seven: ok
Mackoti: otomans france are good
egypt too
Seven: yes
I agree
ok, that works for me
btw
which civ would you prefer to play?
Mackoti: i supose we will play both and bounce ideeas for every civ
Seven: that's possible... I kind of expect us to each log in more as one than the other though
Mackoti: i dont have a favorite
you can pick yours
Seven: ok
I don't either
we can figure it out later then smile
I believe I want to post this in our own forum first
see if anyone has any comments
Mackoti: ok
Seven: I don't think RMOG will be ready anyway
Mackoti: lets wait a litle
Seven: nighttime for at least some of them
Mackoti: perhaps some other toughs will came
Seven: yeah
Mackoti: changet my ind
lest pick sumeria
will be very useful
Seven: isntead of what?
Mackoti: lizie
pericle its not worse
than her
Seven: ok
works for me
Mackoti: having axes which have good odss on chariots
and war chariost
and skirmishers
its very good
Seven: yes

Is the plan to pair the ziggurat with the non-organized leader?

Anyway, sounds alright to me.
If you know what I mean.

Yeah, most likely. It's probably slightly better for the ORG guy (more hammers saved in practice since techer was not going to build a lot of courthouses), but only by a little bit since the total possible discount is actually greater by putting it with the non-ORG. The key fact though is that the mining/fishing civs that we want are clearly better for the funder (who is going to be the ORG civ).

Even giving the ziggurats to the less effective leader we thought Sumeria was a really strong choice.

I think Sumeria is a good pick but wouldn't that work better on the wide fundet? And it is not a certainty you get Engkand with that picking strategy.

Carthage is actually not that bad of a Civ for Min/Fish too. I'd pair them with EXP, though, for the quicker Cothons.

After reading all the chats, I think I'd go with Pericles as the second leader, if only to prove that Financial isn't needed to win the game. And that'd also mean a super fast Academy (and a faster leader than Lizzie)!
