I'd like to start discussing our long-term game plan. This might be fairly newbie, some of us are a little slow
1) Assuming horses and copper are easily available and neighbour capitals at a distance of 20 or so tiles, what does our military plan look like for the first 50-60t?
2) What wonders are we interested in, and which wonders are the other teams likely to go for?
3) What's the general layout of our tech plan?
4) What do we know about the playing style of the other teams?
5) How will we keep a team with Lewwyn, Krill and Gaspar on it from imploding violently?
Feel free to add anything important I missed!

Generally I think a lot of this stuff has to wait until we start getting contacts/going deeper into the game. As the resident "Know-it-all-able-to-execute-nothing" I'll try and put together some pregame thoughts on what we can expect from each team based on what we know about their dominant personalities sometime in the near future. Hopefully will help Krill a bit when he does diplo.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Get more cities, more pop, more tech and a bigger army in the right position than the other guys.

I will boldly go ahead and present a newbie perspective then! I know this can't be very in-depth until we know more, but newbies like discussing things to get smarter.
1) Military plans
We want two warriors out to explore early, adding a chariot later to apply a bit of pressure and maybe steal a worker. How soon do we expect to do better than a warrior for garrison?
2) Wonders
Menagerie with Huyna will likely go for Oracle and Colossus. Trolls will likely go for Pyramids, being the only non-FIN team. Pirates and Gillette are likely interested in Stonehenge. Should we make a dash for GLH? If Menageri go for Oracle, I say we go for it.
3) Tech plan: Hunting => Pottery => Mining => Bronze Working => ?
How important is it to get an early religion? We want Priesthood for Ziggurats, so we will need either Meditation or Polytheism anyway.

Instead of asking how to do something, ask why you want to do it.

1) As thin as possible.
2) Can't say without looking a tech plans and what the opposition go for. Some races aren't worth running...
3) Depends on 2 and 1.
4) Probably worth keeping this to the seperate threads we will likely run on them.
5) Alcohol.
In general this thread is a good idea but until we start the game there isn't really a whole lot to add.

Something that I think we do need to decide on though is our general game plan. Here is my proposal:
Our TEAM captain has had a little sucess at this site and others by using a tried and tested method of play. The tactic is to not get sucked into early warring as this is a waste of resources (read PBEM 4 vets - yes he lost his 3rd city but he didn't then declare a jihad and fight for it back), to not get sucked into early wonder races that cannot be won, as this is a waste of resources (read PBEM 2, oracle race), to concerntrate on securing a decent segment of land and then build that land into a tech lead by careful empire and tech management (read all MP games), to then use that advantage to war if needed.
Willem (CRE/FIN) of Sumeria is perfect for this. CRE will allow us to secure borders with our neighbours early on and it provides us with some nice half price buildings. FIN is the teching trait and if we get more land thatn others, we work more cottages which translates to more tech. The Ziggurat will help with our large empire.
So overall - I think we need to channel this style of play and not let ourselves get distracted by chasing wonders we don't need and warring with people we don't need to fight.

Why do we want a wonder?
Why do we want to fight a war?
Etc...
The how comes from our awesome TEAM who will figure it out!
Let's channel Krill!
