Quote:Team Pirate,

I am sure you will see several different modus operandi for diplo this game. Lord Parkin will likely send you novellas filled with self-congratulatory prattle and not so subtle sycophancy. With 7 & Kyan's team, I would generally suggest keeping a close hand on your wallet, because as they butter you up with hours of chat logs, they will be robbing you blind. Darrell's team, well, I suspect they won't be too bad to work with. But they have novice, which means if you get into any micro contest, you will likely come out on the short hand.

And then there is us. Let's cut the BS. You want to win and we want to win. And no doubt, at some point, those purposes will be contradictory. But I would suggest that our teams should have extremely close diplomatic relations. I don't believe either of us are probably fancied by the population at large as likely winners of the game.. That lends us a great opportunity to work together, settle aggressively in the other direction, and generally work to put our teams in the most desirable situation late game, at which time we can simply duel it out from positions of strength.

You've seen my other games, and I have worked very closely with Luddite in the past. I can be trusted. I am glad to meet you guys first, because I told our team before this game even started that we should try to work with you guys from the start.

Anyway, we are going to keep diplo as short and direct as possible. Most of us are too lazy for intensive Civ strategy talk, let alone useless diplo nonsense.

Quote:Greetings, TEAM!

Sorry for the slight delay in responding. Work can be quite busy as all of you know.

We're of a similar mind when it comes to diplomacy.
Here is the information we'd like to share with you.

- You guys are the first team we've met.
- The land we've scouted between us is very green and resource rich. Exactly the land you want to fight over.
- We're not big on NAPs, and aren't interested in signing one this early. We trust you guys aren't the sort to go kamikaze and try to ruin our game with a worker snatch. "That being said, if you do fuck with us we will drag you along with us to the depths of hell. (Dave quoted)"

We're interested in building up a nice and friendly information sharing relationship and hope to hear your thoughts on this soon.

Cheers,
Nakor

Quote:Hey Pirates,

The land looks lush everywhere. We are open to cooperation on any and all levels, including screenshot trades and more. However, it's pretty obvious in your message that you don't know whether you want to cooperate or not. If we didn't make it clear in our first message we have zero interest in flowery language, bullshit hedging or basically anything Parkin would put in a diplo message. If that's cool with you guys, we can get along great and have a productive friendship. If you'd rather engage in verbal masturbation, we can add you to the "Go Fuck Yourselves" list with the others. Your call.

Regards,
TEAM

Quote:Hi TEAM,
Not quite the reply we expected...
We would like to work with you as well, as we said in our earlier message, but got misinterpreted.
Again: We would like to work with you and build a trusting friendship.
So, where shall we start?
We can share screenshots and discuss a border? Notify the other if we meet another team? Not a lot more to do at this point.

Cheers,
Nakor

We agree to screenshots with the resource bubbles on. Anything else we need to agree on about screenshots prior to sending?

Once the land between us is fully scouted, we would be perfectly willing to agree to a settling agreement and an NAP, that way we can direct our expansion and aggression in other directions. And trust us, given Creative and a team full of volatile pricks, we already have some thoughts in mind on that front.

We still haven't met any other teams. And we are in agreement that we will let each other know when we meet another team, and also to help facilitate a meeting between TEAM/Pirates and any newly found opponents.

I suspect our diplo style is quite a bit different than any other teams you will meet. But given the quality of the teams in this game, wouldn't you rather deal with us than someone who wastes your time and won't bother with such blunt assessments? We realize Nakor is a natural born equivocator--we will try not to hold that against you.

Quote:TEAM,

Ok, so we agree/propose:

Screenshots with resources shown every 10 turns, (frequency can be altered), first screenshot on T12.
Discussion of a settling agreement when the land between us is scouted.
Notification of meeting other teams, where we met and who. Aid in setting up a meeting when requested.
Notification of rumours regarding strikes against each other.

We hope this captures everything.
Cheers,
Nakor, Pirate Equivocator

Quote:Lewwyn: hey
OleDavy: Yo
Lewwyn: can I rbdemo game diplo with you?
OleDavy: I don't have a ton of time at the moment, but what's up?
Have something in mind?
Lewwyn: yeah you know your southern neighbor?
OleDavy: Not yet, we haven't scouted very far in that direction
Lewwyn: yeah figured
well I'll give you the scouting in that direction
http://s1121.photobucket.com/albums/...enShot0041.jpg
LP's team
their cap is 11 tiles from your cap
OleDavy: A might closer than I would have thought
Lewwyn: kinda hoping you'd go jihading
yeah especially given our 16 tiles between us
OleDavy: Well, a little early to make any fim decisions on that front
BUt there is no great love for LP on our team
Lewwyn: I want to draw up a border agreement between our teams so that you can focus on settling towards them
and we'll focus on settling towards our neighbor allowing us both to backfill towards each other in peace without worry
OleDavy: We haven't yet drawn up a comprehensive dotmap, though we are planning on settling our second city nearby to the southeast
I think we're of a like mind though
that corn/cows/ivory/gold pink dot on the gl hill looks pretty appealing
Let me most a map of the territory between us, let the team dotmap it
you guys do the same, and Nakor can get in touch with you guys and hammer out something that works for both of us
Lewwyn: okay
turns are moving slow so time isn't too much of an issue
but I definately wanted to get this out to you
hopefully you can settle that pink dot on them without even having met them
though thats pretty "perfect world" scenario
can you guys send an updated map of what you've scouted to your SE and what I guess is the center of the map?
OleDavy: Sure, I
'll login to the game later tonight and shoot you an email with a screen
some kind of body of water in the 'center' of the map
though it may just be a glorified lake
Lewwyn: hmmm dohnutty
OleDavy: that's what we thought
Lewwyn: I'm going to go ahead and post this chat in our forum too
OleDavy: I will do likewise
Lewwyn: I'll let you get on your way

OleDavy: alrighty
take care!
Lewwyn: later

tl;dr:

They are close to on board with settling up on LP. Pink dotting. Will send updated map of their scouting. We need to get that and work up a good border agreement dotmap to work with them. I figure it may take a few back and forths to settle it, but I think we'll benefit immensely from not having to worry about settling wars with their team. We can focus on the marble in the center and settling southward. Possibly grabbing the stone down south. I'm sure we can also work up a trade deal for stone once they have it hooked up if we can't get the south one.

Quote:Hello TEAM,

This was not exactly how we wanted to start our diplomatic relations with you, as we even had a nice opening letter typed up, but your brutal murder of our pacifist scout has left us no choice but to ask you to refrain from travelling anywhere near our borders until such time as reparations have been made.

Sincerely,
Merovech

Quote:Dear TEAM,

We are somewhat surprised by your decision to beeline Divine Right; that is certainly a novel strategy. Do not think we will be intimidated by your spiralling minarets, however. Although our scout was disposable, there are plenty more razors where he came from.

Sincerely,
Team Gillette
