River is more difficult, but 41 onto gems enables 33 the turn afterward, or 66 then 31 to check out a bit of coast then circle around.

Here are our start positions. Almost identical to the previews we got.

I think the fogged tile 2E1S of the rice may have been changed from plains to grassland. Not sure though. Don't notice any other changes. The water to the north is confirmed as another lake.

Again identified whether each nearby body of water was fresh or not. Only change I notice is that the top left visible tile was transformed from tundra to plains. The river plains tile in the top right also has a bit less tundra coloring in it so I'm wondering if the forest to its NW was turned from tundra to plains too.

Mehmed clearly settles in place first. Then the scout can go diagonally NE or SE 2 tiles. Might be dependent on what's revealed across the lake by culture.
Liz... is it worth moving the scout 2S first to check if the capital should move there?

What would be better than a 3/2/3 sheep and 4/1/0 wheat? 6/0/1 corn? I suppose that would be worth moving for so sure, seems reasonable to move the scout 22.

Couldn't reach Mackoti yet so I just played the turn for both civs before going to bed. I figure if one of us is going to do it alone, might as well be the one who did the micro plan.
Our scouts revealed no new resources, though the coastal culture did reveal a clam. I did notice an intriguing possibility of a river connecting our two capitals, and tried to show this in the second screenshot.
Btw I ended up with my name on Liz of Rome because of how sunrise asked me to test the pitboss. However, we haven't actually decided which one of us will primarily play which civ if we even worry about that. Thinking about it though I believe we'll do better with me playing Rome and Mack playing Sumeria. I feel like my last few games have all been training for chopping out 40h granaries, and Mackoti is a great judge of how to expand without crashing economy too much. With this in mind I took responsibility for naming the Roman cities. (Just going for foods I like.)
TODO:
* Deduce which opponent civ has the coastal and which has the inland spot, assuming that each team has this sort of setup.
* Get an idea of how close our opponents are and which directions we expect them in, based on the map dimensions and wrap.
* Decide where to scout next.
Novice, Ichabod, you guys still there btw after the long setup delay?

I'm here.
I think that uncovering the land between the civs is the way to go right now. Do we get a TR if we unfog the river and it's indeed the same on both capitals? I'm guessing no, since Mehmed is not settled near the lake (would roading the rice give us a TR, if that's the case?) and we probably need sailing.
If the TR between the civs is still in need of techs, I think I'd move the Roman scout 1SE, 1NE and start looking for a good second city location, circling the area until we are back in the river.
Can we get in-between turns demos? I mean, when not all teams have played their turns? If we can't I think we can only find out if there are other coastal starts from the demos right now. Figuring out which Civ is where will need more turns, probably.

We need sailing to get the river to work outside of culture, and we need to road from the city to a riverside tile - i.e. on the rice and also the tile SE of the rice.
It seems likely both civs will get a connected second city before we reach sailing, in which case the trade route doesn't give extra commerce but just allows resource trades. So we probably won't need to rush to this.

Decided to scout in a big loop since hey, it's a 2-move scout. Found gold! For next turn I was thinking to go eastward (E-SE, or NE-NE) and loop around to the northeast, which is the best spot for a 2nd city to share resources.
Again went a bit farther before looping. But jungle is unapealing; next turn I was thinking SE-NE.

Border pop! Calendar is looking nice in Sumeria. No more resources revealed in Rome.
Both scouts are thinking they will move in a northeasterly direction.
