[SPOILERS] This Smacks of Sorcery

This smacks of a filler post.

shhh

This thread is for C&D. I don't know how much we'll be doing but it will be good to keep track of what opponents are up to, to at least some extent.

t0, after 1.5 other teams have played.

Who's played and settled so far?
* Us
* Shoot the Moon as Huayna of Maya, and WarriorKnight as Gandhi of Egypt.
* HitAnyKey as Bismarck of Natives. (Victoria of Korea hasn't played yet.)

First trying to notice land area: rival average is 3428 which means total is 24k. Best is 9k and our own Mehmed accounts for 6k of it, leaving 9k more to split between the other two civs. Most likely 4k and 5k, i.e. Bismarck is on the coast and I suppose their lakes are first-ring to a greater extent than ours.

Next this I'm looking at is MFG. Rival best is 3 - that means no expansive worker bonus. (Btw I just grabbed demos with Mehmed too and found that exactly one opponent has 3 MFG.) So I guess one of the coastal starts is working a 3/0/0 tile and the other is working the 2/1 forest. Forest makes more sense for a WB build so it's probably HAK, whose team starts with Fishing.

Looking at GNP (and the top city rankings) merely supports all these things. One opponent has 19 and the other settled ones have 18. So everyone's getting a tech with prereqs and only the inland start is working a tile with 1c.

A good guess would be:
Huayna of Maya started inland and is building a worker, working riverside cow (or equivalent).
Gandhi of Egypt started coastal and is building a worker since they don't have fishing. He's working the rice because it's the default tile the governor would select. Alternately: Gandhi is growing to size 2 on a warrior and plans to revolt to slavery to get the worker. In this case they must be researching BW.
Bismarck of Natives started coastal and is building a WB like we are. They will probably build a worker after that like us, but I'd expect them to go for Henge after that. With a start similar to ours they can get it EOT17. (6t of WB, 1t of henge+grow, 5t of worker, 4t henge @2, 2t henge@3, 1 chop.) (Btw, if RMOG put Huayna inland as we expect, then they can get henge eot15 with worker-first followed by 2 chops. So we will see who is really serious about this wonder. I don't think opening with a WB counts as serious.)

Oh please. Beat people by playing a better game. This is little better than playing with a handicap.

Huh?

Missed a smiley. Should have been a shakehead smiley at the end of the sentence.

I still can't tell what you're talking about.

You don't need to do C&D. Not being funny or anything, but it's more impressive if you win without knowing every small action your opponents make.

Disagree! crazyeye As a lurker I hope that every team puts the best possible effort into the game and I think that performing R&D is one of the factors that separates competitive playing from casual games.

Of course everyone plays as they want and winning with eyes closed would be an impressice act, but as a lurker (and also if I were an opponent) I hope to see everyone giving 100 %

I'm not going for most impressive victory. I am playing this game to have fun. There is nothing else to do right now.

I looked at the tree types in the sandbox. I am guessing they'll be the same in game: top 8 rows are snowy, next 6 are coniferous, middle 11 are deciduous, next 6 are coniferous again, and bottom 9 are snowy. This puts Rome in the 11th row and Sumeria in the 14th. (20th/21st is the middle.)

Our capitals are 12 tiles apart horizontally. (Plako said they would be about 10 apart.) If another team shares the northern hemisphere with us but is on the far side of the map, then we'd guess their eastern capital is 21 tiles west of our Sumeria, and their western capital is 21 tiles east of Rome. Of course since it's not a mirrored map we shouldn't expect this to be exactly true, it's just for getting a rough idea of things.
