OK, thanks. I'll assume I can then.
Athlete told me he is also going for construction so I'll lose out on some trading there. Fortunately I have the deal with m_h for metal casting confirmed.
In bigger news I finished the great library!

The northern city on the lake (fish+wheat) I've moved 1NW since the 2 plains and the marble are probably better than a coast and an ocean tile.
Not sure what my first priority is. Maybe the deer city to the west, then I can build an exploring boat. If you (lurker) were playing, where would your next settler go?

(Or you will know that you don't have to defend this sector) This is a good point, maybe I could contact Dreylin and get a concession for not settling in the "disputed" area ...

Seems natural to go for the coastal cities first and save the safe backlands for last. There might be a case for getting marble on-line asap though, or kick-starting the maoi city.
Any plans for a forest preserve/national park city?
On another long-term topic, what about corporations?

I'd build the Fish/Wheat/Marble spot first, I think it'd give the most immediate benefit.

It's probably the best site in a vacuum but it's a long way away from my core and there are no good city sites in between.
Dreylin has overtaken me with 6 cities. I think though that I need a few more workers and barb-fighting military before I can expand. Pretty happy with my 5 core cities, just need to get their production up.

City update:
Athens is my capital is growing to size 8 while building a horse archer to fight barbs. It will then crank out a worker then a settler. It has just mines and farms.
Corinth has finished its granary and barracks and is now builing a HA. It is my military city and will probably build a forge next. Has 1 farm built and 1 mine, need to send another worker down to speed up the improvements.
Thebes is my commerce city. It has 3 cottages now and the great library. Contains a library and granary, will start a palace next turn. First time I've built a palace in CIV I believe.
Sparta has 2 scientists hired and will pop a scientist in 3 turns. It is currently my worker factory, building its third successive worker. 2 chops are timed to come in here to coincide with metal casting so that it can quickly build a forge and then work on the colossus.
Argos has cows and stone to work. It has just finished its granary and is still looking for direction in this cruel, cruel world.

I've been having a rather amusing email exchange with Dreylin. I offered him literature for monotheism+50 gold, fairly fair offer I thought, the beaker difference is 71. But then Dreylin wouldn't do it for less than 35 gold. I stuck to my offer, saying it's a pre-req of music and that could be valuable whereas mono is a well known tech and he said that he could give me more than 50 gold if I agree to not go for music. I had no intentions of going for music, since the tech has little trade value. I don't mind at all if Dreylin gets it and the free GA, much rather him than Ruff. So I offered him if he gives me 70 gold instead then I'd agree not to research music. He hasn't replied yet but if he accepts then I think he just conned himself out of 20 gold.
EDIT: Excellent, dreylin agrees to monotheism+70 gold for literature. I go in with a 50 gold offer and come out with a 70 gold offer! I should apply for The Apprentice.

OK, another turn played. Horse archer produced in Athens, now started worker. Settler next.
Got metal casting from m_h this turn, swapped Argos over to forge.
Have a 3-way tech agreement to research machinery (me), CS (m_h) and feudalism (athlete). We need to stick together to fight Dreylin and his partner-in-crime Ruff.
Dreylin is researching music and Ruff is researching feudalism. That looks quite nice - I doubt either of those two will get much trades for those two except with each other. Ruff also seems to be having difficulty fobbing off theology onto anyone.
Got a GS on the interturn, can't do anything with him until next turn. Despite not needing to trade for CS from Dreylin anymore, I think I will still use him to lightbulb philo and will revolt to pacifism. Oh how I wish I was spiritual.

I think that's the difference between a Durham undergrad and a Cambridge postgrad...
or a Geologist and a Chemist.
I think I prefer the second comparison...

I think I missed what you were referring to?
