RB PBEM #1 - Pericles (SPOILERS!)

GA is 6 turns on quick unless you have MOM, when it's 9. GAs are much more powerful, relatively, on quick speed. (6/8/10 for Quick/Normal/Epic).

I don't know about "much" more powerful. If 8 turns on Normal is standard, then Quick should be 5.66 turns. An extra one-third of a Golden Age turn is rather unremarkable.

As to why the GA turn lengths aren't synchronized right across game speeds, well, it's harder to find workable numbers than you might think. The ratio for Quick:Normal:Epic should be 0.66:1:1.5, for which the lowest whole number ratio comes to 4:6:9. That's too short as per the game design, but the next set of correctly ratioed whole numbers is double that at 8:12:18 which is too long. 6:8:10 is close enough, though 6:8:12 would get Epic correctly in line.

Agreed. 6/8/12 would be so much better. Since I usually play on epic speed, this is frustrating.

Nice cities ... you would be in a great position if there was a decent mid-game peaks->food tile improvement. Mountain goat herding? Lichen cultivation?

I've just founded 4 cities in the last 3 turns - Pericles has quick libraries but not instant ones

Thanks to all who told me a GA is 6 turns. That allows for two revolutions so I'll have to think about what to do.

I put the capital on wealth and that got me nationalism this turn. I also got a great scientist on the interturn. So the plan next turn is to build the Taj Mahal with my great engineer. That will set off a golden age the turn after, where I will revolt to organised religion and mercantilism. I may also go to caste system on the same turn, or I could wait until the last turn of the golden age to revolt to caste system. Not quite sure yet.

In great news my 9xp phalanx has found another barb warrior and will unlock the heroic epic in a few turns . A nice time to be getting into organised religion and hooking up marble . Now, where to put it ... corinth or athens? Probably Corinth.

Research next turn will begin on Printing Press, which will mostly be researched using the GS that was born this turn.

A Great Engineer creates hammers equal to 500 + 20 x city population on normal speed. If your city is at least size 10, it'll complete the 700 for Taj. Great Engineers ignore any hammer multipliers like marble and forge and Org Rel civic.

860AD - Dreylin discovers liberalism and presumably takes steel. I can't know for sure but it makes sense.

I use both of my GPs this turn - I build Taj Mahal in Corinth (my southernmost city, in Death Valley) and I bulb Printing Press to 2 turns to go.



I put the Taj in Corinth to try to get control of the two tiles in mine and Ruff's second ring. He might not like it, but it's my turn to control that "shared" flood plain we agreed on. Also, with the heroic epic it should get some GA points. I used this turn to also hire 2 artists (from my odeon) because production is irrelevant on the turn you GE rush something so maybe I can think of getting a GA from that city when the GLib obsoletes.

So next turn I'll be in a golden age. I'll revolt to mercantlism + organised religion and finish printing press. Then on the final turn of the GA I'll probably revolt to caste system. I think I will research Military Tradition after PP so that I (and the other two) have something that can counter cannon. Shouldn't take too long in a golden age.
