Interesting. Was there ever a CivForum game with mangrove forests on the map?
Participated in: Pitboss 40 (lurked by Mr. Cairo), Pitboss 45 (lurked by Charriu and chumchu), Pitboss 63 (replaced Mr. Cairo), Pitboss 66Pitboss 69, Pitboss 74, Pitboss 78 (lurked by GT), Pitboss 79 (lurking Giraflorens), Pitboss 81 (lurking giraflorens),

Yes.
We had a few games, where this was a intentional feature - PB92 and my start for exampel.
The defencebonus - and higher movement costs - were important in the PB88. I think the forest on the sea was unintentional, but by chance there happened a battle on this field.
aspi Thread for the PB88 should have this in one of the 10 (4) last pages, If I remember correctly.

And I'm a bit interested for a variant game, but I'm not sure if I have the time.

Well somewhat good news - the map for that game is probably 60-70% complete, and the overall scenario is pretty fleshed-out - enough to launch signups at any point. I'm holding it until another game ends (76?), plus the general PB hosting uncertainty could delay it further - hard to say right now. But that game should happen provided I can convince 5 players to play it. Maybe consider teaming with someone when it launches if you don't think you can play it solo.

I'm definitely interested in Pitch 1 provided it starts after my June holidays, so that's only a handful more needed.

There was a scenario in Warlords that let the player play as the barbs.

Why don't you use that as well as all the other jerking around stuff a map maker can do?

That may line up decently well with the end of 76, depending on how that game goes.

That's a wild idea. I don't know how that would work, but it does make me wonder about playing out some of the pre-designed scenarios via Pitboss/PBEM.

I can't comment on the other scenarios, but it is a two phase game: the barb scenario is the opposite of a king of the hill scenario, either the barb player wins by wiping out everyone, or they don't, in which case it becomes and "ordinary" game of civ, with whatever additional rulkes are in place. In terms of how to play teh game pragmatically, it's a turn based game, the barb player always plays separate to everyone else. The question is if the civ players should go sequential or simultaneous. I would suggest that sequential is better, which means high PYFT rated players are needed because it really needs at least 5 civs to be interesting.

I'd recommend playing it, the scenario is actually a really cool single player scenario. It's possibly the most fun I've ever had in a single player civ game.
