I'd generally agree. While in our normal ban scenarios (resulting in fields like PBEM 38), I'd not mind any of these combinations, it is a little strange to see such mixed picks. None of them have terrible leaders or civs, though, so it ought to work out well as a spectacle.

And I see way too many people counting on elaborate wonder / Great Person paths in their threads. My top priorities in a game like this would be 1) not dying early and 2) getting a fast growth curve up and running. I wouldn't spend the early turns building wonders.... but we shall see.

We've run a similar version of this game several times, and there's a lot of evidence to suggest that bulbing paths, civic management, and smart wonder prioritization is king here. This isn't a normal game... Exp runs its course far quicker here than in a normal game, and the growth curve isn't nearly as big a deal when you're on a commerce-constrained map. Exp is better here than it was in the original incantations of PBEM34, but it still is a mediocre trait on this map, and these guys know it's going to be a bit cramped. I wouldn't have taken Elizabeth, but no way would I have taken Pacal either smile. I'm also not sure why Inca would be considered good on a tiny cramped AW setup - Quecha is worthless vs humans in this setup (unless you just mean Terrace which is fine, but it's still weaker than normal here).

It's an even more aggressive variant than anc TBG SS...artist bombs are awesome. Which is why they are banned, I suppose.

I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but in this cramped variant where players will undoubtedly start butting heads with each other sooner rather than later wouldn't extra culture be more important than usual? In Inca's case it's basically a free creative trait.

I suppose one could argue that it'd be better to just take a CRE leader instead and take a civ with a more appropriate UU or even just ignore extra culture in lieu of other strategies, but Inca seems like a useful pick on this map regardless.

On a start this cramped, you don't even have time to get the granary down before you can get hit by something.

Hannibal of Egypt aren't half bad given the settings, if a bit to optimistic

Charismatic for faster promotions on War Chariots and go to town, while having Financial as a backup if theres going to be a buildup beyond mines/farms ...

Not that the other picks are bad in any strech of mind ... they're just mindblowing strong on the map ...

Catwalk is my favorite for dropping the ball first ... he would be quite inconvinienced if people start probing him early on ... specially with him being a sub-par tactician (see his failed Preat attack on an largely unprepared India in 37, and his dropped attendence in dual league) ... futhermore i'm not convinced that he have other 'ready-to-use' plan than his one-trick pony which is beelining Oracle grabbing MC, getting an Engineer from a forge and grab Pyramids, and have a hard time being convinced it being a bad idea

Hannibal is good, I like Chm for the happy cap and barbs ought to mean a very strong core of shock War Chariots. He might be better off just using them to raid. I was going to say "protect his REX" but Hannibal means going vertical on a nice cottage core early.

Catwalk...I don't understand. Either play with the Engineer to net early Machinery, get a quick Academy with scientists, or follow the religious paths with Prophet bulbs. Why do you want the 'mids as Financial?

I'm still wishing somebody would take PHI China and bulb Machinery and wreck everybody with CKNs.

well, Catwalk is (from what i've seen) very inflexible in his style of playing ... He uses a way that worked for him before, and aren't veering off cause on it if it can be helped.

He aren't good at reacting to changes either from opponent actions or map not playing as he thinks it would from the early game, and are probably easily killable given a enemy thats creative and unconventional with his attack

And why the hell would you run an engineer for 'mids when you're not PHI? That's 80h and -2 food for 23 turns. Especially as FIN, when you should be growing food-neutral cottages and whipping military to Not Die.
