Good reporting though is worth the effort: it's a pleasure to read some game threads.

PB5 reports cost me a keyboard and more time than writing two dissertations though. Streaming turns is much easier in terms of time, but just isn't the same as written reports.

Ah, ok. That one looks easier to grab.

Still, once you have Currency and Code of Laws, there's almost no such thing as a bad city. I would still settle a city for the tundra horse eventually.

True. On the other hand, it's the best way to learn. If you can't explain what you're doing, you're probably not doing it for a good reason. If you can explain it, then there's a chance for busybodies helpful lurkers like me to give you advice.

Plus, of course, it's fun to read!

Thanks all for the responses.

Writing down what I'm doing, on a turn-by-turn basis, has really helped my play. I think, for you readers, it has allowed you to correct some of my more outstanding and easily correctable management errors. Additionally, as Krill and Mardoc have alluded to, it allows me justify my decisions to myself. About half of my level of play in this game has improved because I've realized: "oh crap, that's a bad idea" while writing a report.

I'd encourage more players to put the time into reporting. It really will help.

This game has also illustrated that there's no way I can play a PitBoss (well, on my own at least. I can dedlurk ... very ineptlyshhh); the day-to-day time commitment is a lot to ask. Major hat tip to those of you who:

  1. Play in PitBoss
  2. Report daily turns

That is an incredible time investment and my hat goes off to you. My Krill's hair goes off to those who can do that and post pictures. (*cough* NylesStandish *cough*)

I'm going to try to post that dotmap tonight. With work and my entire family being sick, this has been a rough week to find the time to do that (says the guy posting this from work).

P.S. Mardoc, thanks for the code review. WRONG THREAD PB34 SPOILERZ

T96: Forgot to switch off Meditation for Construction. D’oh.

T97:

Switch to construction. @ 100% science, i generate 100 beakers at -33 gpt. 100% cash, +52 gpt. 65 in the bank. So I need about 7 turns before I can get catapults.

Baghdad finishes an axe and the chop completes another one. workers are cottaging the northern grassland so we can share it with poor Kufah.

Jewish missionaries out of Medina and Mecca T98.

Damascus overflows into an axe.

I consider getting a scientist/priest out of Mecca. It's 9T out.

But I think taking out Ramesses is more valuable. Start a settler worker instead (2x whip next turn, with max overflow into another axeman.

Medina overflows into its barracks and I’ve configured it to grow next turn (off the gold for 1 turn… that’s actually not a good idea)

And here's the dotmap:

The only change I'm really considering right now is moving the first city south of Baghdad 1SW to get the cow and the dyes. That'll wait, probably, until after I kill Ramesses. Let me know if y'all have any feedback, you always do.

EDIT: Also considering moving "very late" 1S. I can build there and the site's viable-ish via calendar.

Dotmap looks good to me, with that northwesternmost coast city getting Moai Statues. I agree with moving the city south of Baghdad 1S, thought of that myself before seeing your note.

I might consider consolidating the two cities north of Baghdad into one, located 4N 2E of Baghdad, where it reaches both the deer and sheep. This gives up the copper and gold tiles on the coast -- but you don't need those tiles. You already have the resources, and you won't have enough food to work them; that sheep is only 4F which leaves the city at just +2 surplus if it works the copper, and that's not good enough. You can always still settle the "1" later after that if you still want it.

Meta-tip: turn on flying camera mode for high altitude dotmap shots. Find CivilizationIV.ini in your My Games folder, set AllowFlying = 1 in it. In-game, use Ctrl-Shift-F to zoom up as high as you want. That's how you get wide overviews in one shot like this one.
