Commodore vs Donovan is the biggest mystery in this game. I hope Donovan will explain this at some point

From commodore's thread rn:

To be fair. If it weren't for Commodore, we would know nothing about this conflict, which may be one of the most important conflicts in this game.

Occasionally, I think we get complacent. I think players forget that there are more ways to play these games, that the metagame continues to evolve, and that the only way to truly stop someone razing your cities is to destroy their army first.
Commodore is just the latest example of this.

Not that the mountain of salt isn't justified, just that context has to be considered. Commodore did nothing thing to stop DZ attacking him.

The first couple of wars seem easily justified - Com was supplying Donovan's enemy and running very light military - but I'd love to know why Donovan is attacking Com while Alhazard invades. The defensive war should favour Donovan. Unless he hasn't got catapults?

I think DZ lacks cats and has mostly axes versus Keshiks and cats.
Potentially, "Getting out of the way" might be the reason for the latest DZ invasion.

If DZ hadn't kicked off a 3-front war, likely he'd have cats by now and be more able to defend himself against Alhazard, while Comm would still be busy fighting SD and trying to maintain a quiet northern border. Just because the first wars may have been justifiable in the short term did not make them a wise choice in the long term.

Not saying his salt isn’t justified.
Until Donovan posts we won’t truly know what was going on, but he may feel that commodore supplying copper to regentman may have ruined his own game. Or, perhaps Donovan seems himself a kingmaker and has to choose between letting Alhazard or Commodore win and went for Alhazard.
