I rolled the turn today, and since I'm not at war nor preparing for war, I went ahead and played my next turn. We got our next great person, a Great Scientist. Unfortunately, he would bulb SciMeth right now, which is only 1 turn out, so I put him on hold. If I'm reading the list correctly, once I finish SciMeth, he would bulb part of Physics? Is that correct? I can hold him until we get our next great person in about 30 turns and hope it's a different one for a golden age. I can shorten that a little bit if I sacrifice some production in the capital, but not by more than maybe 6-8 turns.
I finished the Forbidden Palace in Wildebeest, near the SE border with haram/Seven, which increased my commerce by something like 80 per turn (income went up by ~50gpt at 40% science). Wildebeest is becoming a decent production city. Oxford has 1 more turn on it in Antelope.
Mackoti now has transports and destroyers, but I lost visibility on his research -- working to get that back. Haram is 1 turn from Rifling, which Gawdzak is also researching at 0% right now. Seven is going for Railroad. I should have wetbandit's research fairly soon.
In world news, wetbandit got himself a Great Artist. Still quiet. All the DPs means mackoti is probably not willing to go after any one of the rest of us.
Two important things happened this turn for us: Oxford was completed, and Scientific Method was researched. Oxford boosted our beakers out of Antelope to 481bpt at 100% science. And Scientific method revealed we have 3 sources of oil in our territory, though only two of them are really accessible. Screenshots:
In recently conquered/settled territory (works out better than if I had settled on it!)
Near the capital:
And on the border with mackoti:
You can also see my stack in Nyala.
We also discovered gold in a mine near Nyala -- you can see it on the screenshot above. That's brand new. I have mixed feelings, because on the one hand it's more commerce, but on the other I lose a hammer (and the extra that one is multiplied into).
I picked Steam Power as the next target, and with our Oxford-boosted research we have it in 3 turns at 100% science (which we can afford for about 7 turns). I think after that will be Combustion, then Biology. I want to get the oil online ASAP. Long term it's probably better to go Bio first and get the farm bonus, but long term only matters if you survive.
In world news, Gawdzak got a Great Scientist, and Seven got himself a Great General. Since he's not at war with anyone, I guess he's got some privateers wandering around. I haven't seen any myself.
Domestically a short turn. My big decision right now is what to do with my GS -- bulb part of Physics or wait for the next GP and hope it's a non-GS for a Golden Age? I'm about 30 turns from the next GP.

Barbs? I didn't think there were any left on the map, but I guess that's possible. Otherwise I can't think of anything else short of an actual conflict, which the foreign adviser said isn't happening.
I’m honestly not sure what this is about…he’s asking for resources that he already has, and that I have multiples of, except for horses which we both only have 1 source of. Given that we have no common border, and he would have to go through either mackoti or Seven to attack me, I declined and made him an offer of a DP with Whales. I’m not going to give up a strategic resource (especially one I need badly to make cavalry) for a DP with someone I don’t even share a border with.
In world news, Seven kicked off a Golden Age and switched to OR. He’s now in Rep/Nat/Caste/FM/OR. Haram got a Great Artist.
In domestic news, we finished Steam Power and found Coal in one location:
Luckily already mined, but that would have been a contested tile prior to the war with haram, so I’m glad I took that section of his land. I picked Railroad as the next target with my eye on Combustion. Of course, Railroad is an amazing tech on its own, especially for a large civ like this. Buffing my mines by +1h will have a huge effect on my production, as all of my grassland hill mines go from 1f/3h to 1f/5h with a railroad (thank you, Productive). And then the ability to speed up transport between the different parts of my empire would allow me to respond to an invasion with all of my force rapidly. I went to 0% science to build up cash, then will go back to 100% science next turn for 5 turns and we have it.
I also put levees into the queue of any city I have on a river – no sense in missing out on those extra hammers!
On a great note, Sitatunga regained control of its Fish! I’m still building cultural buildings there, too (and in the nearby cities) so hopefully I can retain control over that tile. It’s still pretty closely split between haram and I.
I also just noticed that Seven has an airship staged out of Vulture, on my border with mackoti.
I haven't done much reporting because there's not much to report. wetbandit got a Great Artist a turn ago, but otherwise it's very quiet. We'll get Railroad next turn. Haram and wetbandit are going for Steam Power, and Seven is 2 turns from Radio (Eiffel Tower time, I would guess).
Given enough time, I'll almost certainly be able to gain a significant tech and power lead over haram...the question is whether I would attract an attack by warring on him again. I guess if I'm dominant in power enough, no, but I'm not sure I'll get there with mack and Gawdzak and their crazy armies.
In world news, Seven nabbed a Great Scientist, and he's spreading Buddhism to my cities as he has the shrine. So I'm returning the favor by spreading Confucianism.
Railroad came in, and I immediately started all of my workers in pairs improving my grassland hill mines as that gives me the largest immediate benefit (1f/3h becomes 1f/5h thanks to productive). Once all of the grassland hill mines are railroaded, I'll start railroading other tiles than can benefit from it as I connect my cities together. I picked Combustion as the next tech, which is 4 turns + 2 turns of building gold.
That's all the news there is to report. I starts a few Machine Guns building as well, since they're the only effective defensive unit against Mackoti's Riesengarde's I have right now.
