Turn 46

Looks like there is a similar peninsula south of ours.

I'll assume those clams aren't going to belong to me, but the fish will be nice and it rivals a sheep/marble city for the best Moai site.

Discovering the peninsula has made me reconsider the pig city a little. I want to be able to produce enough navy to protect the south coast, so does that override the benefit of sharing the stone? Lets try some dotmaps:

Version 1
First up we'll settle red and pink, then the two blues followed by purple and the orange fillers. This was my immediate thought, with the idea that purple would chop the 'mids, but it orphans a river grass and plains wine. frown

Version 2
To get the orphaned tiles back purple could move 1E, but then it doesn't share the pig or copper and will only get +4 food without farms. I moved pink south here to cover the grass tile that purple moved away from, but it could be on the coast even with purple in the original place.

Version 3

So given that I don't expect to get the clams anyway I think perhaps we can fit two cities on the peninsula by settling on the dye. This gives the happy as soon as we research Calendar and means that Iron Working isn't required straight away, although the city will be slow until borders pop.

I also moved purple up another tile to share some more tiles. If we're chopping a wonder in here it'll probably need to be further south, but if not I think this site works best...

Any reasons you don't like V3 THH/Fintourist?

Turn 48

I was just pondering how OT4E/2metra settled their fourth (4!) city this turn. Either they've been chopping all their forests into IMP settlers or someone badly underestimated their handicap. Then look who turned up on my doorstep yikes. The selected warrior is going to head to the east to fogbust for the next city and perhaps work out where OT4E is.

We got graphs on Gavanth this turn so I switched EPs to our new contact. I was a bit worried they could be sending axes or chariots to smash my one warrior but apparently not please. In fact they haven't revolted yet, so do they even have BW? Our copper will hook up in two turns, then I'll get some hammers into an axe in case of emergency (no Hunting so no spear scared ). Horses won't be online until ~t66, is it worth a War Chariot rush then?

Graph dump, along with demos.

Turn 51

Gavanth adopted slavery t48 and settled their third city t49. I think OT4metra have four cities already. I'm deliberately building granaries and workers and delaying the third and fourth cities so that I get Maths earlier, I wonder if that's going to prove to be a mistake...

Anyhow, this turn the borders popped and we can see an island that could be handy for intercontinental trade routes. We also got an opportunity to gank Gav's Scout. The Warrior would then be able to promo-heal and Gav won't be able to track what we're up to so well.

Gav's a cold enough player not to let that bother him, but I want to use my scout on his borders for a bit, so I'm going to let him live. Economically we're working our first cottage (on Ichabacca's wine) and next turn will work the second on Krillpatine's floodplains.

Trying to figure out what the graphs tell us about Gavanth's and our game so far:

I worried that the wheel jump was an axe for a bit, but actually I'm a warrior ahead of them. That's nice. Once I've got graphs on OT4E (in about five turns) I'll feel a lot more secure. Right now someone has about 3 axes more power than I do - please don't let it be OT4E...

Anyone want some random speculation about the map layout? This is more desire than anything else - if my neighbours are Gav and OT4E I hope their neighbours aren't going to be easy... Although actually, if Dantski or one of the others got a flier of a start perhaps they're a meaner neighbour than I'm giving credit for. Hmm. Okay, this is probably bollocks then.

We have WAR!!! hammerbutcher:butcher2hammer

And I'm dead - I certainly didn't expect to get a visit from a galley with chariots on it this early in the game. shakehead If I'd only moved my warrior to the marble instead of 1S of marble last turn I'd have had enough warning to... Um... Well probably do nothing given that I lack Hunting.

Who remembers Ceiliazul's Law Of Civ Combat?

I know which thread I'm gonna go read first...

Anyway I declared on Gavanth to let them know there's a carcass to be stripped... Also left a worker as (hopefully) bait.

Okay then.

A bait for who?

3S1W of the capital. If OT4E captures it I get a shot at the chariot with an Axe. I expect him to just hold on to the capital instead though and try to bring reinforcements up. I'll get a spear over there in about four turns to try and take it back.

If they do push on they've got a good possibility of capturing my second city, but I should get a shot at their chariots with the axe first.
