I already started with some ideas for the map on the weekend. Here is what I'm aiming at:

Some notes:
- Toroidal, everybody starts on the same landmass. The former was requested.
- 42x34. 1428 tiles. Should be 120-130 land tiles per player in total.
- I want to encourage early trade, by connecting most players by coast and/or river
- BFCs should be equal accross the board with access to sea
- As with my first time mapmaking thread I will try to make the process of creating the map very transparent, so that everybody can chime in with feedback and so that future map-makers can learn from it.

Here is my first draft of the landmass. I tried to add islands for more strategic value (V2 and V3). But I will most likely do no islands for the following reasons:

  1. Adding islands means loosing some precious land tiles for some players and I don't want to go below 120 land tiles for any player.
  2. The two smaller seas are meant to seperate red, orange and brown. Otherwise the players (especially orange) have way too many players bordering them.
  3. Filling up the bigger sea with islands looks awkward and crowded.
  4. I also don't like the look how the 1-tile islands are cramped into the seas with just one tile seperating them from the mainland. It looks unnatural, and some players wanted a natural feel.

Work on the map continued. I added the major rivers and lakes. Anybody who wants to get a more detailed look can download the map here (V4):

Last but not least. I noticed that I have this ugly blob at the 0/0 coordinate of the map.

The blob should disappear next time you open the map. Overall map shape looks good to me.

When you link images, can you please remove the ?dl=1 at the end?

I can see the pictures from my phone, but not from my work (work firewall blocks dropbox). I suspect the problem is on your end and something similar.
